Iranians boycott Nokia over alleged surveillance collaboration

Wholesale vendors in the capital report that demand for Nokia handsets has fallen by as much as half in the wake of calls to boycott Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) for selling communications monitoring systems to Iran.

If Nokia did help in human rights abuses then they do not deserve money from the rest of the world either.

People might say what difference will it make, but BigCorps only care about money. Not human rights, not customers, just the cash thankyouverymuch.

So hit them where it hurts.

The problem is how many times have we seen companies falsely accused. Just this week I have had to go to snopes to check out a claim made in one of the gajillion chain letters going round. In this particular instance it was a "support our boys in Iraq against the evil Starbucks" diatribe that turned out to not have a single shred of truth. Someone with an axe to grind more than likely.

In this case it seems the boycott has merit, but the internets is a tool that could be wielded for evil as well as good.

As a happy iPhone owner I am kind of exempt but my family are all upgrading handsets soon ...
